2. Sir Keir Starmer; and the absolutely delightful surprise that is Lady Victoria Starmer - transcendent looks and an immaculate dress-sense.
3. FOOTBALL TALK WARNING
England won their semi-final and will now face Spain on Sunday in the Euros final! And the hero of the hour was one, Ollie Watkins who started his professional life with EXETER CITY (one of the teams we follow for family reasons). We watched as Exeter's scoring-record went down after he left for Aston Villa; whilst Villa's not only went up; but the whole team went up - to the Premier League. And now he's scored the most divine goal in the whole England campaign. SO - I now look forward to seeing Dear England again at the National, with its promised new ending to cover Euros 2024 and with Ollie in the cast. Joseph Fiennes has been playing Gareth Southgate ever since the play was first released!
4. BUT, BEST OF ALL
The current edition of Radio Times has announced that Vienna Blood Season 4 is coming soon -scheduled for next month. And here was me, suspecting that the BBC would sell it down the river, citing financial restrictions, in favour of ANOTHER Death in Paradise spinoff.
This series will feature one overall plotline instead of one murder solved per episode. A new approach, but then - the safety of the whole Austro-Hungarian Empire is at stake!
I do hope Emperor Franz Josef, and even the late Empress Sisi, make an appearance this time; but even they will pale into insignificance beside the absolute glory that is actor Jürgen Mauer donning his best shabby-chic-with-bowler-hat as Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt. Beside him, Dr Max Leibermann (Matthew Beard), sporting figured burgundy waistcoats, fur-collared outerwear and natty homberg, pales into insignificance. (Slash? What, me?? So that's why I'm cheerful today.
TOMORROW, however, the world will end. We have the plumber coming to drain our radiators and replace the valves in all eight of them. The accumulated junk of centuries will have to be moved for them to access each radiator. Will we survive? We can only hope. We've book dental checkups next week in the blind faith that we will.
Think of us tenderly, my friends, for the day of doom is upon us!
